Duties and responsiblities of TAS officers:
We elect our board of directors at our general meeting in December. The term of
office runs from January to December. There are currently only seven positions authorized by the club:
- President - chief executive of the club.
- He presides over the general meetings.
- Develops Agenda for meetings.
- Approves special Press Releases.
- Approves meeting minutes before posting on website.
- Contacts new members by phone and determines their interest.
- Provide leadership and direction for club.

Vice President - is an assistant and backup for the president.
- Assist the President.
- Presides over meetings in absence of the President.
- Develop and posts on the the TAS website GM programs for no less than 3 - 6 months in advance.
- Develop or improve on a new member welcome package.

Secretary - handles the coorespondence, Federal and State registrations,
and minutes of the club.
- Maintains and posts meeting minutes on the TAS website after approval by the President.
- Custodian of TAS records.
- Updates the posts on the website the TAS Bylaws and Membership Lists.
- Provides a mass E-Mail reminder to members 2-3 days before the mmetings and events posted on the website calendar.
- Coordinates with the Education Chair and places information in the Tallahassee Democrat automatic web page 2-3 weeks before general meetings and events.
- Treasurer - is the person that handles the club money, accounts, bills. Takes orders for magazines, books and club clothing.
- Maintains the club's books and accounts.
- Responsible for accounting for all money received in investments, dues, donations, sales and fund drives.
- Maintains current membership roster on TAS website.
- Orders all books, substrictions, clothing, and awards.
- Checks TAS P.O. Box once a week.
- Education Chair - is in charge of TAS's educational outreach. They prepare special educational events that correspond at our regular outdoor events and coordinate with local schools and educators and organize educational star parties.
- Organizes and coordinates normal monthly sidewalk astronomy events and special events that are primarily for the general public.
- Posts on the website calendar in January all the regularly scheduled TAS Sidewalk Astronomy events for the year.
- Places on the Board Meeting agenda any special astronomy events and if approved by the Board posts these evenst on the TAS website calendar.
- Designates an alternate person in charge of normal and special events if they can't attend and updates event contact person on TAS calendar.
- Observing Chair - is in charge of the observatory and observing
site. He is also responsible for organizing observing events at TAS dark sites and
encourages
the members to participate in observing programs and club observing sessions at
StarHill.
- Organizes and coordinates TAS observing events that are primarily for TAS members.
- Posts on the TAS website calendar in January all normal new moon observing seesions at a TAS darksite.
- Coordinates the maintenance of TAS observing equipment.
- Coordinates with County Parks to maintain the J. Alford Greenway as the "close-by" observing site.
- Posts in January meteor shower dates, and moon conditions on the TAS website calendar for the year.
- ALCOR - is the Astronomical League Coordinator. They administer
the evaluation and submission of applications for Astronomical League recognition
of member's work.
- Maintains and monitors TAS relations with the Astronomical League (AL).
- Coordinates with the AL for all recognition of TAS member participation in AL observing programs.
- Maintains a matrix on the TAS website of the progress of all TAS members participating in AL observing programs.
- Maintains information of who attended TAS outreach events over the year for the AL "Outreach Award" program.
- Website Coordinator - is the person in charge of this website [This
is currently not a board position.]
- Maintain and improve website.
- Coordinates review for improvements of the website one a year with board members at the June board meeting.
- Trains the new Board Members on the website after the November Board Meeting.
